About MPCC

MPCC is a non-profit Montessori school founded in 1984 located in Omaha, Nebraska. MPCC is structured for children ages 18 months through the 6th grade and offers a great opportunity for you and your child to be a part of parent-run cooperative education.

Each program at MPCC provides a loving and stimulating environment in which the children learn language arts, math, geography, science, computer technology, art, drama, and music. Our children are also exposed to foreign languages and enjoy many field trips. The use of sensory materials and practical life skills are emphasized in the toddler and preschool programs and facilitate learning in the elementary years. These are all presented in an aesthetically pleasing, prepared environment, which is true to the Montessori philosophy in purpose and ordered simplicity.

Dr. Maria Montessori opened her first "school" in 1907. It was known as the "Casa dei Bambina" or "Children's House". This reflected Dr. Montessori's belief that a carefully prepared environment designed to facilitate the development of a child's independence would be more beneficial to the learning process of a child. A Montessori environment is a "hands on" experience in the most profound way.

HISTORY OF MPCC

MPCC was founded in August 1984 by a group of parents who shared the Montessori philosophy and wanted quality education for their children through a prepared environment. These parents were committed to building a school that had qualified caring staff, low student/teacher ratios, low staff turnover, quality educational materials, and before and afterschool care. They also wanted a school in which they could be actively involved -from preparing classroom materials to making major policy decisions. To accomplish all of this, MPCC was organized as a non-profit corporation, governed by a Parent Board of Directors.

MPCC opened its doors in 1984 under the direction of President Melinda G. Hess. The school was originally located at 3869 Webster Street in the old wing of St. Cecilia's School. In 1989, the school moved to St. Patrick's School building at 2326 S 14th Street. In 1998, the school relocated to St. Adalbert's school building located at 2616 S 30th Street.

MPCC extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and parents who have worked so hard for our school, and to Peggy Higgins of Wilmington, North Carolina, who has given us continuous support and guidance in developing a quality school for our children.

ADMINISTRATION

MPCC is organized as a non-profit corporation that is governed by a Parent Board of Directors. Board members are elected by the parent body of the school. Each Board member pledges to serve the best interests of the school  and the parents, as a whole, even in the event that those interests conflict with their own personal interests or the interests of their child.

The Board is responsible for establishing general policies for the school, setting the school's annual budget, establishing and working towards accomplishing long-range goals for the school, assisting with staff-related issues when necessary, and making final determinations as to any parent-staff conflicts or parent concerns. Daily operation and administration of the school is the responsibility of the President, Head Directresses and/or designated Officers.
